Through the IC2MS 2025 Forum, The Department of Chemistry FMIPA Affirms Its Capacity on the International Stage

The academic reputation of the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember (UNEJ), was once again proven through its active participation in the 7th International Conference on Chemistry and Material Sciences (7th IC2MS) 2025. IC2MS was held at the Institute of Business Excellence (IBE) Building, UiTM Shah Alam Campus, Selangor, Malaysia, on August 19-20, 2025. Carrying the theme “Bridging Disciplines, Advancing Innovation for a Sustainable Future” IC2MS is a strategic collaboration between the University of Jember, Brawijaya University, Malang State University (Indonesia), and Universiti Teknologi MARA (Malaysia). IC2MS is expected to bridge interdisciplinary learning and pave the way for new innovations oriented towards sustainable development.

This year, the University of Jember delegated ten Chemistry lecturers, not only as participants but also actively contributing as keynote speakers, invited speakers, oral presenters, and poster presenters. The event began with remarks from the Chairperson of IC2MS 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Fariz Mohamad Taib. In his remarks, he stated that this conference serves not only as a scientific forum but also as a platform for strengthening international friendship and cooperation. “We also hope that the consortium’s membership can be expanded in the future,” he said, highlighting the presence of several delegates from Thailand as an opportunity to add new IC2MS members.

The event was then officially opened by Prof. Ts. Dr. Ing. Oskar Hasdinor Hassan, Director of the Institute of Science, Universiti Teknologi MARA. Following the opening, the event continued with a Plenary Session featuring selected experts. The University of Jember was honored to have Drs. Siswoyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., as one of the Keynote Speakers. He presented his research topic, “Synthesis of Cobalt-Based Materials in the Development of Potentiometric Sensors for Phosphate Measurement.” The University of Jember delegation again demonstrated its contribution in the Parallel Session, which was designed for more specific and in-depth discussions. Dr. Bambang Piluharto, S.Si., M.Si., appeared as one of the invited speakers, presenting his research results, entitled “Modification of Biochar to Enhance Anion Adsorption Capacity.”

Furthermore, the involvement of academics from the University of Jember was also demonstrated through their participation as oral and poster presenters. Six lecturers presented as oral presenters: Prof. Dr. Anak Agung Istri Ratna Dewi, S.Si., M.Si., Dr. Muhammad Reza, S.Si., M.Sc., M.Si., Novita Andarini, S.Si., M.Si., Andriana Kusuma Pertiwi, S.Si., M.Si., Tinok Dwi Ananda, S.Si., M.Si., and Ana Yulvia, S.Si., M.Si., and Yeni Maulidah Muflihah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. and Dwi Indarti, S.Si., M.Si., who participated in the Poster Session. The University of Jember’s Chemistry delegation achieved its culmination when Dr. Muhammad Reza was selected as one of the Best Presenters for his research presentation entitled “Polyaniline: A Versatile Adsorbent Material.” This achievement was not only a personal source of pride for Dr. Reza but also affirmed the quality of University of Jember’s research, which is competitive and recognized globally.
