Retired Ir. Misto, M.Si: Physics Department FMIPA UNEJ holds Public Lecture and Farewell

The Physics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Jember held a public lecture and farewell event for Ir. Misto, M.Si., who is retiring on November 30th. In his speech, the Head of the Physics Department, Dr. Agus Suprianto, S.Si., M.T., expressed gratitude and appreciation for Mr. Misto’s service. “On behalf of the Physics Department, I would like to thank and honor Mr. Misto for his dedicated contribution in sharing valuable knowledge,” he said. As a colleague, Dr. Agus shared that Mr. Misto had made many contributions to research and community service. “He is a senior physics lecturer who always provided advice to us younger faculty members and was a great teacher who was always willing to engage in discussions with students,” he added.

The event was attended by all the lecturers and administrative staff from the Physics Department. The event began with a public lecture, during which Mr. Misto gave a talk to physics students from various year groups. He shared the story of his journey from becoming a lecturer to his years of service at FMIPA, leading up to his retirement. “At the end of my service, I want to share my knowledge, especially in physics, for the advancement of medicine, which has been part of my journey as a lecturer,” he said. Mr. Misto has worked on several collaborations to show how physics can greatly benefit human health, particularly through medicine.

He explained that not everything dangerous is harmful if used in the right way. “Gamma rays from radioactive materials, if used correctly, can be used to treat cancer,” he explained. The radiation can damage the DNA of cancer cells, which helps slow the growth and spread of cancer. “Although there are side effects, like loss of appetite, this can be managed by eating fruit,” he added. The event ended with the students presenting Mr. Misto with a gift.

The farewell event continued with a video presentation from colleagues and staff, who shared messages and memories of Mr. Misto. “He is a role model who is always enjoyable to discuss with, whether it’s about lectures, research, community service, or even life in general,” said a fellow lecturer. Many gifts were presented to Mr. Misto, from colleagues, alumni, and the department. The event concluded with a group photo, karaoke, and a lunch together.

Congratulations on your retirement, Mr. Misto, and thank you for your dedication and service to Physics, FMIPA, and the University of Jember.

The academic community at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Jember received great news as 2024 comes to a close. The Master’s Program in Mathematics at FMIPA UNEJ has achieved UNGGUL accreditation. This is confirmed by the decision from the Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Sains Alam dan Ilmu Formal (LAMSAMA) with the number 117/SK/LAMSAMA/Akred/M/XI/2024, dated November 21, 2024. This UNGGUL accreditation is a proud achievement for the Mathematics Master’s Program and for everyone at FMIPA UNEJ. “This is the result of the hard work of the taskforce team and program managers, as well as the collaboration of many parties, which led to the UNGGUL accreditation,” said FMIPA Dean, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D.

The Mathematics Master’s Program, through its accreditation team, prepared the necessary documents with the support of faculty, students, alumni, and stakeholders working together to achieve the UNGGUL accreditation. Welcoming the 60th Anniversary of UNEJ, FMIPA holds a MIPA Moves for Health Competition

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the University of Jember (UNEJ) and the 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), FMIPA held a competition with the theme “MIPA Moves for Health.” The event was opened by the Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., on November 26 at the Mathematics Department building. He explained that the competition was organized to promote health and physical activity, as a way to celebrate these milestones. Prof. Dafik emphasized that staying healthy helps people stay active and motivated. This is especially important because FMIPA is supporting UNEJ’s preparation to become a Public Service Agency (PTN BH). “We need strong stamina to face the challenges ahead, so this activity is very useful,” he said.

The event, led by Dr. Esti Utarti, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, featured a variety of competitions: table tennis, badminton, volleyball, chess, and a healthy walk. “Let’s participate and watch the competitions. Chemistry Lecturer Ana Yulvia Introduces SpectraHub, an Integrated Digital Platform for Spectroscopy Learning at FMIPA UNEJ

To improve the quality of spectroscopy learning at FMIPA University of Jember, Ana Yulvia, M.Si., a chemistry lecturer, successfully developed SpectraHub. It is a digital platform designed to make it easier for students and lecturers to access spectroscopy materials. Ana came up with the idea for SpectraHub after observing and analyzing the needs of students, especially in the course Penentuan Struktur Senyawa Organik. “I noticed that many learning resources for spectroscopy were scattered across various media without a central location,” she explained.

According to Ana, the lack of a centralized platform made it difficult for students to easily access materials, which were often only available in text or static PDFs. This platform is part of Ana’s effort following basic civil servant training that she attended from September 10 to November 16, 2024. It reflects the values of the ASN  BerAKHLAK framework, particularly focusing on service orientation and accountability in her role as an educator. Continue reading
