Physics Department, FMIPA UNEJ Hosts Inauguration of Management and Public Lecture of Indonesian Geophysicists Association

The Physics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, hosted the inauguration of the management of the Indonesian Association of Geophysicist (HAGI) East Java, Regional Committee Surabaya (27/2). Inaugurated directly by Ir. Dedi Yusmen, M.BA., M.Esy., President of HAGI from PT. Pertamina at the UNEJ Entrepreneurship Building. The public lecture was delivered by Deputy Secretary General I of HAGI Muhammad Husni Mubarak Lubis, S.T., M.S. from Pertamina University. The theme raised was “Massive Geophysics and Exploration for Energy Sustainability.”. Dean of FMIPA UNEJ Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. was present and opened the event, which was attended by physics, mining, and oil students from UNEJ. Prof. Dafik said that the introduction of the world of work to students could be bridged through associations such as HAGI.

“With an association like HAGI consisting of lecturers and practitioners, it will help students introduce the world of industry, especially geophysics,” said the Dean of FMIPA. It was said that FMIPA also wants to open a geophysics study program after several new study programs that have been prepared. The new study program will increase the interest of prospective students to join FMIPA. The Dean also hopes that HAGI, through its work program, can provide teaching practitioners even though the ministry’s regulations may be slightly different. “I congratulate those who were inaugurated today; hopefully HAGI can continue to contribute to the world of education and the wider community,” he concluded.

Dr. Agus Suprianto, S.Si., M.T., head of the department and deputy chairperson of HAGI Komwil Surabaya, who was inaugurated, expressed his pride in being appointed as the host of the inauguration. “I would like to thank the president of HAGI, who was willing to attend and inaugurate the administrators at Physics FMIPA UNEJ,” he said. In addition to Agus, Nurul Priyantari, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer at the Physics Department of FMIPA, was also inaugurated as the HAGI Komwil Surabaya administrator. Dean of FMIPA UNEJ Prof. Dafik also received the HAGI honorary pin, which was pinned directly by the President of HAGI.

Previously, in his speech, Ir. Dedi Yusmen, M.BA., M.Esy. The President of HAGI said that as a scientific profession, geophysics will strengthen scientific understanding by collaborating with several parties in order to contribute to the country and the wider community. “HAGI already has communities related to geophysics and also collaborates with several parties in order to contribute to the country and society,” he explained. The world of education has also been touched in the form of HAGI student chapters spread across several universities in Indonesia.

In line with the President of HAGI, in a public lecture Muhammad Husni Mubarak Lubis, S.T., M.S., began with the HAGI profile. It was said that HAGI has a program to introduce geophysics to the campus community. “HAGI holds many public lectures or webinars to introduce it to campuses and collaborate with HAGI student chapters,” he said. Geophysics is expected to be a solution to the energy transition. Discussed the strategy towards Net Zero Emission by 2060. “Electricity savings, new and renewable energy, a moratorium on PLTU, innovative technology to reduce exhaust emissions, energy sources, and energy efficiency are needed,” he explained.

The public lecture was moderated by Bowo Eko Cahyono, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., a lecturer in the Department of Physics, FMIPA. The importance of geophysics in answering the challenges of energy transition is an interesting topic. “Geophysics plays an important role in the exploration of Indonesia’s natural resources. With its geographical conditions and location, a lot of collaboration is needed for energy sustainability, including with universities,” he added. The speaker also invited all participants to join as HAGI members to discuss geophysics. The event was closed with a discussion and quiz for the public lecture participants.
