FMIPA UNEJ Invites Prof. Edy Tri Baskoro from ITB, Discussing the Opening of a New Study Program

FMIPA Jember University will open several study programs, including an actuarial study program in the Mathematics Department. In the initial stage, Prof. Edy Tri Baskoro, M.Sc., Ph.D., from FMIPA ITB, discussed the establishment of an actuarial study program (14/6). The Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., invited the task force team to establish a new study program for the Department of Mathematics to take advantage of this discussion. “The presence of Prof. Edy from ITB is a great opportunity to explore what needs to be prepared when opening a new study program, in this case actuarial,” he said. Present at the event were the Chair and Secretary of the Mathematics Department, as well as the preparation team for the establishment of a new study program in mathematics.

Prof. Edy said that the undergraduate actuarial study program at FMIPA ITB is a scientific discipline that applies mathematics and statistics to analyze and manage risk. “The areas analyzed include insurance, both life insurance and general insurance, pension funds, investment and banking,” he explained. It is also said that graduates of the actuarial undergraduate study program have career opportunities to become actuaries, investment managers, risk managers or can also be academics as lecturers or researchers. The first step is to classify the courses and teaching staff who will be involved in teaching in a study program that can be said to be new in Indonesia. Continue reading

Mathematics FMIPA UNEJ Student Delegation Participates in the 2024 Satria Data Competition

FMIPA UNEJ Mathematics students took part in the Statistika Ria dan Festival Sains Data (SATRIA DATA) competition in the National Statistics Competition (NSC) at Mathematics Laboratory 1 FMIPA UNEJ (3/6). Followed by 11 students, they will solve broad statistical problems and analyze the data carefully so they can provide the right solution. Accompanied by Mathematics lecturer Firda Fadri, S.Si., M.Si, students must solve questions on probability theory, statistical theory/satematics statistics, and categorical data analysis. “Online preliminary round with a model like UTBK plus supervision via the zoom application,” explained Firda.

Apart from NSC, together with the team from FASILKOM, students also take part in SATRIA DATA in other fields, namely the Statistics Essay Competition (SEC), Statistics Infographic Competition (SIC), and Big Data Competition (BDC). Deputy Dean III FMIPA UNEJ, Dr. Edy Supriyanto, S.Si., M.Si., said that SATRIA DATA’s annual agenda will always be supported and provided with assistance from competent lecturers. “We will support SATRIA DATA from mentoring to supporting facilities so that our students excel at the national level,” he said. DOAJ indexed MIMS Journal of Mathematics Department followed by JID, CERiMRE and BST

“Congratulations and success to the management of the MIMS journal for being indexed in DOAJ or Directory Open Access Journal following the JID, CERiMRE and BST journals which were indexed first,” said Drs. Siswoyo, M.Sc., Ph.D. Vice Dean I FMIPA UNEJ and Head of the Jember University OJS Team (27/4). MIMS, the acronym for the Scientific Mathematics and Statistics Magazine, is a journal published by the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember.

MIMS is one of the oldest journals at FMIPA UNEJ. “MIMS has been in print edition since 2000 and will have an electronic version in 2020, hopefully this achievement will add enthusiasm to new journals within FMIPA,” continued Siswoyo. Mathematics Department of FMIPA UNEJ now has a Statistician Clinic

Statistician Clinic is result of a follow-up to the Cooperation Agreement between Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) of Kabupaten Jember with Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNEJ last January. The existence of Statistician Clinic is expected to be able to improve Statistical Literacy to the wider community and assist students in consulting and searching for data for research and research purposes.

The Statistician Clinic is open every Monday to Friday from 09.00 to 15.00 which is temporarily located in the courtyard of the Mathematics Department building, FMIPA UNEJ. In the future, this clinic will occupy one of the spaces around the Jember University Library in order to reach more visitors. Some of the services that can be obtained include publication of digital data, statistical consultation, and recommendations for statistical activities. Continue reading

FMIPA UNEJ Cooperation Agreement with Badan Pusat Statistik of Jember Regency

In an effort to increase the competence of higher education graduates through MBKM Internship Program, FMIPA University of Jember entered into a Cooperation Agreement with the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) of Jember Regency in the Meeting Room of FMIPA Dean (14/1). “This PKS aims to harmonize the joint program of activities in an effort to improve the knowledge, skills and competencies of FMIPA students at the University of Jember in Internship activities/student work practices, especially MBKM in the BPS district of Jember” Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Drs. Achmad Sjaifullah, M.Sc., Ph.D. It was further stated that the beginning of this collaboration was from the visit of Head of the Mathematics Department, Dr. Kiswara Agung Santoso, S.Si., M.Kom. to BPS’s office. “Following up on the visit of the Head of the Mathematics Department, we have prepared a cooperation agreement to establish collaboration between FMIPA and BPS Jember,” he said. On that occasion, Ir. Arif Joko Sutejo, MM. The Head of BPS gave appreciation to FMIPA who immediately followed up on the BPS cooperation offer. “BPS wants to collaborate with academics, as well as to introduce statistical literacy to the wider community. BPS is also concerned with developing sectoral statistics in order to improve statistical quality through coaching and with FMIPA one of them,” explained Arif. It was also conveyed the desire of BPS Jember Regency to establish a Statistical Corner within the University with the aim of conveying all information on statistics, especially BPS. Department of Mathematics FMIPA held The International Conference on Mathematics, Geometry, Statistics, and Computation (IC-MaGeStiC) 2021

Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember held The International Conference on Mathematics, Geometry, Statistics, and Computation (IC-MaGeStiC) 2021 online (27/11). MaGeStiC is the first international seminar for mathematics department, and is closing of a series of international seminars at FMIPA UNEJ after previously there were three international seminars, IC2MS in Department of Chemistry, ICPIAM in Department of Physics and ICOLIB in Department of Biology. MaGeStiC 2021 has the theme “Building Networks and Collaborative Research on Mathematical Sciences“. Chairman of IC-MaGeStiC 2021, Dr. Kiswara Agung Santoso in plenary session said that MaGeStiC presented 4 Keynote Speakers, Prof. Nobuaki Obata from Ohoku University, Japan, Martianus Frederic Ezerman, Ph.D. from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Fernando Marmolejo-Ramos, Ph.D. from the University of South Australia, Australia, and Prof. Marko Vauhkonen from the University of Eastern Finland, Finland. “IC-MaGeStiC 2021 also presented 6 invited speakers, Natanael Karjanto Ph.D. from Sungkyunkwan University, Republic of Korea, Prof. Indah Emilia Wijayanti from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia, Dr. Erry Hidayanto from University of Malang, Indonesia, Prof. I Made Tirta from University of Jember, Indonesia, Moh. Hasan, Ph.D. from University of Jember, Indonesia, and Dr. Kristiana Wijaya from University of Jember Indonesia,” he explained. Kiswara also revealed that IC-MaGeStiC 2021 was attended by 65 presenters and 60 of them had sent full papers to be presented in 6 parallel sessions, Computation, Graph and Algebra I, Graph and Algebra II, Modeling and Analysis, Statistics 1 and Statistics 2 and Education.
