Biology Undergraduate Study Program FMIPA UNEJ Achieves UNGGUL Accreditation from LAMSAMA

The academic community of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember received two good news in early July 2025. Among them, the Biology Undergraduate Study Program FMIPA UNEJ achieved UNGGUL accreditation. It is stated in the decision of the Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Sains Alam dan Ilmu Formal (LAMSAMA) Number 205/SK/LAMSAMA/Akred/S/VII/2025 dated July 7, 2025. The accreditation is valid from the date of determination until July 6, 2030. At the same time, the Mathematics Undergraduate Study Program also received UNGGUL. The achievement of UNGGUL accreditation complements the ASIIN international accreditation that was previously achieved. “Congratulations to the biology undergraduate study program for achieving the UNGGUL accreditation predicate from LAMSAMA, and completing the previous achievement which has been internationally accredited by ASIIN,” said the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D.

In a separate place, Dr. Retno Wimbaningrum, M.Si. Head of the Biology Undergraduate Study Program said that the UNGGUL achievement was the result of hard work through its accreditation team preparing forms, supported by lecturers, students, alumni and stakeholders. “After achieving ASIIN accreditation, the biology undergraduate study program has now achieved UNGGUL from LAMSAMA, completing the biology master’s study program which is also accredited UNGGUL, congratulations to the team and the FMIPA Biology community,” said Retno. The leadership of the University of Jember also played a role and supported the LAMSAMA accreditation process. During the field assessment, the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor I, Head of UPA ICT, Director of Postgraduate Studies and representatives of LPMPP were present. The Chancellor of UNEJ fully supports the UNGGUL achievement to improve UNEJ’s IKU. Vice Chancellor I of UNEJ delivered a presentation on the Profile of the University of Jember.

As is known, at the end of May 2025, the LAMSAMA assessor team conducted a field assessment at the Biology Undergraduate Study Program, FMIPA UNEJ. The assessor team consisted of Dr. Sony Heru Sumarsono from the Bandung Institute of Technology and Prof. Dr. Okid Parama Astirin, M.S. from Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta. The field assessment lasted for two days through several sessions with faculty leaders, study programs, accreditation task forces, sessions with alumni and external users to obtain information about expectations, satisfaction or input from stakeholders and alumni regarding UPPS outputs. Also a direct visit session to the Biology Undergraduate Study Program, especially the laboratories in Biology and supporting units at the University of Jember.

The success of the Biology Undergraduate Study Program, FMIPA, in achieving UNGGUL accreditation completes the four undergraduate study programs at FMIPA that have achieved the UNGGUL predicate from LAMSAMA. “Alhamdulillah, the four undergraduate study programs in the FMIPA environment have the UNGGUL predicate from LAMSAMA, hopefully it will continue to be maintained and can be beneficial for the institution and students in particular,” concluded Prof. Dafik. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of UNEJ currently has four undergraduate study programs accredited by UNGGUL LAMSAMA and one internationally accredited by ASIIN, namely the biology undergraduate program. Of the FMIPA’s master’s programs, three have been accredited by UNGGUL LAMSAMA, and one, a master’s program in chemistry, was newly opened last year.
