Biology Undergraduate Study Program FMIPA UNEJ Achieves UNGGUL Accreditation from LAMSAMA

The academic community of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember received two good news in early July 2025. Among them, the Biology Undergraduate Study Program FMIPA UNEJ achieved UNGGUL accreditation. It is stated in the decision of the Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Sains Alam dan Ilmu Formal (LAMSAMA) Number 205/SK/LAMSAMA/Akred/S/VII/2025 dated July 7, 2025. The accreditation is valid from the date of determination until July 6, 2030. At the same time, the Mathematics Undergraduate Study Program also received UNGGUL. The achievement of UNGGUL accreditation complements the ASIIN international accreditation that was previously achieved. “Congratulations to the biology undergraduate study program for achieving the UNGGUL accreditation predicate from LAMSAMA, and completing the previous achievement which has been internationally accredited by ASIIN,” said the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D.

In a separate place, Dr. Retno Wimbaningrum, M.Si. Head of the Biology Undergraduate Study Program said that the UNGGUL achievement was the result of hard work through its accreditation team preparing forms, supported by lecturers, students, alumni and stakeholders. “After achieving ASIIN accreditation, the biology undergraduate study program has now achieved UNGGUL from LAMSAMA, completing the biology master’s study program which is also accredited UNGGUL, congratulations to the team and the FMIPA Biology community,” said Retno. The leadership of the University of Jember also played a role and supported the LAMSAMA accreditation process. During the field assessment, the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor I, Head of UPA ICT, Director of Postgraduate Studies and representatives of LPMPP were present. Field Assessment of LAMSAMA Accreditation for Undergraduate Biology Study Program, FMIPA UNEJ

The Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Sains Alam dan Ilmu Formal (LAMSAMA) team held a field assessment of the accreditation of the Biology Undergraduate Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember. The Rector of the University of Jember Dr. Ir. Iwan Taruna, M.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng. and the Vice Rector of UNEJ for Academic Affairs Prof. Drs. Slamin, M.Comp.Sc., Ph.D. with the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. accompanied the assessor team in the opening ceremony of the field assessment (22-23/5). The assessor team consisted of Dr. Sony Heru Sumarsono from Institut Teknologi Bandung and Prof. Dr. Okid Parama Astirin, M.S. from Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta.

Iwan Taruna in his opening remarks hoped that the Biology Undergraduate Study Program would be able to achieve UNGGUL which would improve UNEJ’s IKU. “With good cooperation from the taskforce team, hopefully the biology study program can achieve the UNGGUL predicate to improve UNEJ’s IKU,” he said. The Chancellor said that the field visitation was a process of verifying the accreditation files that the study program had submitted. “The visitation is a process of verifying accreditation documents, as a place to convince the assessors by the taskforce, hopefully it will run smoothly from the beginning until tomorrow,” he continued. The Rector officially opened the field assessment of the Biology Undergraduate Study Program. Present at the opening of the visitation were leaders and representatives from supporting institutions at the University of Jember such as LPMPP, LP2M, UPA TIK, Pascasarjana, UPA Library and UPA Bahasa. Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember Adds Two New Professors, Now Has 10 Professors

The chairperson of the Jember University Senate, Drs. Andang Subaharianto, M.Hum., inaugurated six professors in the Jember University Senate Meeting at the Jember University Auditorium (17/4). Two of them are professors from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNEJ, namely Prof. Dra. Hari Sulistiyowati, M.Sc., Ph.D.,, as professor in the field of ecological valuation in the Department of Biology, FMIPA,, and Prof. Dr. Sutisna, S.Pd., M.Si., professor., professorld of photocatalytic material physics in the Department of Physics, FMIPA UNEJ. The senate meeting for the inauguration of professors was attended by UNEJ leaders, the chancellor and vice chancellors, senate members,, and stakeholders of the University of Jember. In his remarks, the Chancellor of UNEJ, Dr. Ir. Iwan Taruna, M.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng., said that UNEJ now has 93 professors. Since the period 2020-2025,, there are 5 top faculties that have new professors, namely FKIP, FEB, FP, FMIPA, and FTP.

“UNEJ continues to accelerate the increase in the number of professors, but not only quantity but alsoalso quality is maintained to support the performance of higher education,” he said. The chancellor of UNEJ hopes that the newly inaugurated professors can become enlighteners of science and morality, not only leaders in their fields of science but also rdians of academic integrity. “Professors can continue to be humble and continue to learn, continue to conduct research to produce work because the title of professor is recognition, not the end,” he hoped. Joint Lecture of Master of Biology FMIPA UNEJ: Prof. Amin Setyo Laksono, Ph. D. from Brawijaya University

Prof. Amin Setyo Laksono, Ph.D., from Brawijaya University gave a lecture with Master of Biology students, FMIPA UNEJ, and Doctoral Program UB (30/10). Conducted online with tropical biodiversity courses. Discussion on landscape ecology, which is a very potential field for ecological studies. “Landscape ecology is a science that integrates geography and ecosystem approaches on a large landscape scale and various levels of biological organization,” explained Prof. Amin. Furthermore, the structure, function, and changes in landscape ecology were explained.

“Spatial relationships between different ecosystems or landscape elements in the landscape ecological structure,” he continued. The joint lecture was moderated by Purwatiningsih, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., a lecturer in biology at FMIPA. Prof. Amin explained the function of landscape ecology regarding the interaction between spatial elements, namely the flow of energy, matter, and species between ecosystem components or landscape elements. The participants of the joint lecture were enthusiastic to listen to the explanation from Prof. Amin, who is the first Professor at FMIPA Universitas Brawijaya. Continue reading

Biology Department, FMIPA, University of Jember Presents Biotechnology Expert Dr. M. Kamaraj from India

Department of Biology FMIPA UNEJ presents Dr. M. Kamaraj, Associate Professor and HoD of Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science and Humanities Ramapuram Campus, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, India (9-11/10). A series of events for 3 days were officially opened by Dr. Retno Wimbaningrum, M.Si., as the Head of the Biology Department, FMIPA UNEJ. The first day began with a guest lecture agenda with the theme “Current biotechnology for environmental assessment and monitoring.” Moderated by Purwatiningsih, Ph.D., the lecture was attended by lecturers and biology students. “Biotechnology is changing the way we monitor and assess the environment using innovative, precise, and efficient tools,” began Dr. M. Kamaraj.

It is said that biotechnology is changing the way we monitor and assess the environment by offering innovative, precise, and efficient tools. “The application of this technology will improve sustainability efforts, encourage better resource management, and support environmental mitigation,” he continued. The guest lecture also provided an opportunity for discussion with participants. The next agenda item was a visit to the sub-labs in the Department of Biology such as ecology, zoology, botany, microbiology, and biotechnology. At the end of the first day’s agenda, Dr. M. Kamaraj was invited to visit the CDAST & IsDB building and met Prof. Dr. Bambang Sugiharto, M.AgrSc. Continue reading

FMIPA UNEJ Holds The Second International Basic Science Conference (IBSC) 2024

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, held the Second International Basic Science Conference, or IBSC 2024 (8/10). Held in the 3rd floor of the UNEJ Entrepreneurship Building, this year the theme was “AI at the Frontier of Natural Sciences: Trends and Future Directions.” Presenting keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Ismail Naci CANGÜL from Bursa Uludag University, Turkey; Dr. S. Stalin from SASTRA Deemed to be University, India; Prof. Dr. Ing. Hendro Wicaksono from Constructor University Bremen gGmbH, Germany; and Dr. M. Kamaraj from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, India. The 2nd IBSC 2024 was held in a hybrid manner, attended by 53 participants, and Dr. M. Kamaraj from India was present at UNEJ to provide material.

The 2nd IBSC 2024 was officially opened by Prof. Drs. Bambang Kuswandi, M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Rector of UNEJ for planning, cooperation, and information systems. In his speech, Prof. Bambang said that IBSC is a conference to disseminate knowledge, interact with experts, and strengthen professional networks. “IBSC is a forum for discussion and sharing to support the advancement of science and technology,” he said. It is hoped that the output of the conference discussing the theme of artificial intelligence will be able to make natural science the forefront of future trends and directions of research.
