FMIPA UNEJ held the 101st Undergraduate (S1) and 74th Postgraduate (S2) Judicial Conference at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, Period 1 of the 2024/2025 Academic Year (19/7). Prospective graduates attended an open meeting of the FMIPA senate in the public lecture room of the FMIPA Biology Department. Led and opened directly by the Dean of FMIPA Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. the procession took place solemnly. In his graduation speech, the Dean congratulated the graduates. “On behalf of the institution, I would like to congratulate you on your graduation and achievements for at least 4 years in completing your studies at FMIPA UNEJ,” began the Dean of FMIPA. It was also said that the institution is proud because every year the number of graduates who arrive on time with an impressive achievement index continues to increase.
“At the start of this odd lecture, FMIPA will continue to improve to develop big desires and aspirations. I have a big goal of 3.5 to the power of 4 in mathematical terms,” he continued. Continuing, the first 3.5 is as much as possible for 3.5-year FMIPA students to take the thesis exam; the second is as much as possible to get a GPA of 3.5 to compete with competitors in the world of work. “The next 3.5 is the 3.5 month waiting period for FMIPA graduates to get a job, and the last 3.5 million is the first salary that FMIPA graduates get,” hoped the Dean, who was accompanied by the Vice Deans and the UNEJ FMIPA Senate at the senate session.
Furthermore, the dean hopes that students will have the toughness and courage to compete after graduating from FMIPA. “I am sure that our alumni have a strong and brave soul to compete in the wider social world, both in the world of work and in continuing their studies,” said Prof. Dafik. At the end of his speech, the Dean of FMIPA hoped that students would not be lazy and give up easily because that is not the nature of FMIPA graduates. “Hopefully all FMIPA graduates will achieve sustainable success, not only graduating but also being able to be utilized in society,” he concluded.

A motivational oration at the judiciary was delivered by Imam Syafi’i, S.Si., an alumni of the Physics Department class of 2004. Imam tells of his struggles from college, graduating from college, and now being successful as a competition specialist teacher. “Going back before I became a competition specialist teacher at several schools in the Surabaya area, you could say I was a simple student,” he began. It was said that after graduating, he tried several vacancies in companies and ended up becoming a teacher in his current profession. “I also took part in interviews for work and was a smart FMIPA graduate at the interview,” he recalled.
Imam said FMIPA graduates must have abilities and thoughts that are different from others. “I am implementing this now, having more income with different abilities. Becoming a teacher in several schools, yes, but also providing tutoring outside of working hours, both online and intensive,” he said. Imam hopes that the fighting spirit, as said by the Dean, can be applied by FMIPA graduates and that they can take positives from the experiences he conveys. Tomorrow, prospective graduates will take part in graduation rehearsals, and on Saturday, they will take part in the graduation process at the University of Jember’s Auditorium.
