Guest Lecture, Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UNEJ Presents Prof. V. Swaminathan from India

Mathematics Department, FMIPA UNEJ, held a guest lecture with the theme “Social and Biological Networks Analysis using Hypergraph” in the International Lecture Room (13/5). As a resource person, Prof. Dr. V. Swaminathan from the Faculty of Mathematics, School of Arts, Sciences, Humanities, and Education, SASTRA, is deemed to be a university in Thanjavur, India. Present at the Guest Lecture: Prof. Drs. Bambang Kuswandi, M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Chancellor for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems UNEJ, accompanied by the Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. In opening the event, Prof. Bambang invited all participants to take part in the event and be able to discuss more about Hypergraph.

“Guest Lecture participants can discuss a lot with Prof. Swaminathan to gain new knowledge according to the theme, and UNEJ and his institution will collaborate in the future,” said Vice Chancellor IV while opening the event. Previously, the Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Dafik, expressed his gratitude for the support of the UNEJ rectorate at the Guest Lecture event and for offline and online participants being able to follow and interact with the speakers. “Thank you for the support of Prof. Bambang, the head of UNEJ, who supports this activity, and Prof. Swaminathan, who took the time to share knowledge with us at this guest lecture,” said Prof. Dafik. Guest Lecture of Biology Department, FMIPA UNEJ Presents Two Professors from Germany

The Department of Biology, FMIPA UNEJ, held a guest lecture related to biomedicine and machine learning (25/4). Two professors from Germany were present, namely Prof. Dr. Thiru. Velavan from Universitätsklinikum Tübingen and Prof. Dr. Claus-Thomas Bock of the Robert Koch-Institut, Berlin. The guest lecture was opened directly by the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. Followed by the presentation of souvenirs from FMIPA to the two professors from Germany. Next, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Kartika Senjarini, S.Si., M.Si., introduces the two processors as collaborators on the Global PACE-UP project, Expert Seminar. The guest lecture session was moderated by Dr.rer.nat. Fuad Bahrul Ulum, S.Si., M.Sc., by inviting Prof. Velavan to start the first speech session.

Prof. Velava presented for one hour two main topics, namely research on the inventory of mosquitoes as carriers of arboviruses with the title “Spatial and temporal distribution of vectors and associated arboviruses in Vietnam” and material from Tran Duc Khan regarding artificial intelligence for mosquito identification with the title “Mosquito Identification using Deep Learning and Multispectral Aerial Imagery Dataset for Water Body Detection.” Prof. Velavan touched on many types of mosquitoes in Vietnam and pointed out that the types of mosquitoes found in subtropical areas or the northern side of Vietnam are different from the types often found in the southern region of Vietnam, which has a tropical climate. Guest Lecture Prof. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih: Pengembangan Teaching Industri Untuk Enzim

The UNEJ FMIPA Chemistry Department held a guest lecture by presenting Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si., Deputy Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Community Development, Airlangga University (29/1). Presenting material entitled “Pengembangan Teaching Industri Untuk Enzim” Prof. Ni Nyoman explained the importance of enzymes for various environmentally friendly chemical and biotechnology industrial needs. The guest lecture was held in the FMIPA Physics auditorium with participants from students and lecturers from the Chemistry Department. “As a start, I will introduce microbial biotechnology, the added value of commercial use of microbes, and micromodification,” said the coordinator of COVID-19 research products at UNAIR during the last pandemic.

It was explained that microbial products are enzymes and have great potential for various companies. “Enzymes are an ideal product that can be applied to several companies; paper is one of them, as well as pharmaceutical companies,” he said. Prof. Ni Nyoman, who is also a colleague and lecturer of Prof. Dr. Anak Agung Istri Ratnadewi, S.Si. The Chair of the FMIPA Chemistry Department explained further that the fermentation parameters of enzyme products need to be prepared well, from nutrition to the type of fermentation chosen.
